Baptiste Herbin et Michael Cheret sont amis sur scène et dans la vie depuis plus de 20 ans.
Cette totale complicité les a amenés à concrétiser en musique leur capacité à mélanger leur son de saxophone dans un discours entremêlé, qui prend sa source dans leur passion commune pour le jazz west coast, rappelant Gerry Mulligan avec Chet Baker, Stan Getz ou encore Art Pepper ou Paul Desmond, dont tous deux maitrisent le langage poétique et swinguant.
Les deux saxophonistes ont créé un groupe sans piano ni guitare, ou les saxophones évoquent le sens harmonique des morceaux par un chant tout en contrepoint. Le répertoire est constitué de reprises de compositions de Mulligan, et de compositions originales de Michael et Baptiste, dans une recherche d’esthétique cool jazz, sophistiquée et romantique. Pour les accompagner une rythmique ultra swing et dans une maitrise totale du son d’ensemble : Patrick Maradan à la contrebasse & Philippe Maniez à la batterie.
Le quartet est entré en studio fin 2024 pour l’album Side by Side, et présente actuellement une tournée qui s’annonce pleine d’énergie et de poésie.
Baptiste Herbin and Michael Cheret have been friends on stage and in life for over 20 years.
This total complicity has led them to translate their ability to blend their saxophone sounds into a musical discourse, which stems from their shared passion for West Coast jazz, reminiscent of Gerry Mulligan with Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Art Pepper and Paul Desmond, both of whom mastered the poetic and swinging language.
The two saxophonists have created a group without piano or guitar, where the saxophones evoke the harmonic meaning of the pieces through counterpoint singing. The repertoire consists of covers of Mulligan’s compositions and original compositions by Michael and Baptiste, in a search for a cool jazz aesthetic that is sophisticated and romantic. Accompanying them with ultra-swinging rhythms and total mastery of the overall sound are Patrick Maradan on double bass and Philippe Maniez on drums.
The quartet entered the studio at the end of 2024 to record the album Side by Side, and is currently on a tour that promises to be full of energy and poetry.
