Fondé en 1998, straSax a célèbré en 2023 son 25ème anniversaire et s’offre un retour aux sources avec un tout nouveau répertoire composé par les plumes du groupe pour leur formation originelle en quintet 4 saxophones multi sax et batterie nommé « XXV ». straSax impose un style de jeu de groupe très spécifique, d’une brillante intensité, d’une extraordinaire énergie collective, puissamment organique, trouée d’échappées belles, individuelles, usant de tous les vocabulaires du jazz contemporain : de l’improvisation libre d’inspiration européenne aux diverses formes d’orthodoxie jazz.
Founded in 1998, straSax celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2023 and is returning to its roots with a brand new repertoire composed by the group’s writers for their original formation as a quintet of four multi-saxophones and drums, called “XXV.” straSax imposes a very specific style of group playing, with brilliant intensity, extraordinary collective energy, powerfully organic, punctuated by beautiful, individual breaks, using all the vocabularies of contemporary jazz: from free improvisation inspired by Europe to various forms of jazz orthodoxy.
